Second Semester begins...

Our second semester begins tomorrow, though I don't actually have any classes until Wednesday.

The school has organized an meet-and-greet with some of our alums in New York city. Given that several work for bulge-bracket investment banks and that's the direction I want to go, I'll be making the trip down. That is going to mean missing two classes on Wednesday. Generally our teachers are fairly understanding of this sort of thing but I missed a total of about four classes all of last semester. I hate to be 50% of the way to that total but meeting and MD or two who might look upon a fellow schoolmate favorable is worthwhile.

I think this semester's course load will do far more to remind me that I'm in B-school than last's. It's going to be a lot of work, but that's what I expected. I will be taking Corporate Finance, Advanced Accounting, Operations Management, Global Marketing Strategies, Financial Modeling I (a half semester course) and Project Finance in the second semester.

Given that the teacher has told us that Modeling and PF are the equivalent of squeezing a whole semester's worth of learning into half the time, my free time should be very limited.

I essentially look at this classload as preparing me for a summer internship in i-banking or investment management. It will probably be just as brutal as the job, so might as well get started now.

I have made a good start of getting in shape. I've been in the gym at least four times a week each of the past two weeks and am seeing results already. My earliest class is at 11am, so I will be having my wife drop me off at the gym every morning to get my workouts in. I look forward to being able to run five miles again without it nearly killing me. That is the goal for semester's end.

My printer also picked yesterday to die, so part of the financial aid is going to have to go towards replacing it. Such is life.

My gym is apparantly the hip one amongst the Boston sports scene. I've seen John Dennis (WEEI morning show) and Red Sox color man Jerry Remy working out there in the last few days.

That's all for now,

Jeff
